Sofey's Member Interview
This week's featured members are the crew that worked on mistletoe: Beaker599, Sammy_38, Cubs, Kathryn137, and Politigal75.
Tell sofey: Who is Mistletoe?
Sammy: Mistletoe is a Christmas Fairy. She was sent by Santa to spread Christmas cheer on YT.
Cubs: Strictly speaking, Mistletoe included 4 truly incredible women. One of them organized everything but delivered no cards. One of them, the youngest of the group, was online at the right time when the tidal wave of requests hit. One of them delivered messages from work and home. One of them was unavailable at the beginning of the project due to commitments at work but more than made up for her absence once her job gave her some breathing room.
TS: How did you get the idea for Mistletoe?
S: Beaker and I started the Christmas Fairies last year, and the idea grew from there to include Cupids Arrow, The GreatPumpkin and Witchypoo.
Beaker: It was never really my idea, but it grew from the fun we had at Valentine.
TS: Why did you want to be involved in Mistletoe?
C: I had made so many mistakes with the Valentine Card data that I wanted to do better. I didn't repeat any of my previous mistakes. I made new ones.
Kathryn: Back at the end of October/beginning of November this year, I noticed there were a few little Halloween people running around YT, (surprisingly around the time of Halloween ) and I found out that Sammy was one of those little people, along with her sister, Beaker. I may have asked Sammy what happened here around Christmas time. She mentioned something about Christmas Greetings, and I instantly begged her to let me do it with her this year. She said maybe...Later she asked me if I still wanted to do it, and I eagerly agreed to.
TS: What was your role?
Politigal: My role was sending out greetings and letting people know that their request was sent.
K: My role as part of Mistletoe was to answer requests for greetings to be sent to people, and, of course, fulfil their request! I replied to the requests with this:Your castle in the sky is now a castle on land. Merry Christmas!
C: Numbers person, data freak, reactionary pain in the butt, hissy-fit thrower and cheerleader.
TS: How much time did it take to work on this project?
K: The actual Greetings part of the project began on December 1st, although I was sent the guidelines for the project, and started finding pictures sometime in November.
P: It depends. Some days there were a lot of messages and I was busy, others it was quiet. I could spend as much as 3-4 hours a day or as little as 1, or none on the weekends.
TS: How does this project compare to other holidays, and past Christmases?
S: I think we started the whole thing too early this year, and it died out too soon. If there is a next time, we'll learn from that.
C: I was not involved with last Christmas. I started with Valentine's cards. This project was much bigger than that. It lasted longer. More people were sending cards. Almost twice as many cards were sent.
TS: Did you get anyone who did not appreciate all your hard work? (no names necessary)
P: Some people were less than thrilled with the messages, some didn't quite realize what it was and some were less than happy we didn't offer names, but mostly people were pretty happy to have messages show up and send them out.
K: Well...yes. There were a few people who blocked us (If that's what you mean), but only 1 or 2. Overall, I was immensely pleased with the politeness and beautiful manners of the people of YT, when they either received a greeting, or were notified that their request was being fulfilled. I really didn't expect anyone to reply to either of those things, let alone thank us! It made the job even more enjoyable and fun.
TS: What is the rationale for sending the greetings anonymously and then revealing the names of the well wishers at a later date?
B: The anonymous greetings stemmed from doing Cupids Arrow...Valentine being notorious for anonymous Greetings. When we decided to do Christmas, I thought it was silly to send Greetings with the sender's name, because the sender may as well have just sent it themselves. It was just a bit of fun
P: Not everyone wanted their names attached to it. I would imagine it was like Secret Santa that it builds a little anticipation about who it was from. But you will eventually find out.
TS: Would you want to be involved in Mistletoe again next year?
S: I haven't decided yet. There are a few issues that would need to be worked out.
C: Emphatically, YES. I want to implement some methods I should have used this time. I want to avoid the mistakes I made this time. I want to see if I can make new mistakes.
P: Most definitely.
B: I would consider it again, but only if I have the time to be more fully involved in it.
K: I certainly would! I'd jump at the chance if it appeared before me! I'd really love to do it again next year, and it would be even easier, since I'd have more experience (I'd never done anything like this before!). And also anything else that happens to be dangling temptingly right in front of me like this, I'd willingly accept!
This week's article is titled 'Mountain lion suspected in 2d attack', and the thread was posted by Terry.
